10 Commandments Of Photography
As photographers, we all follow a certain set of rules, whether we notice it or not.
For instance, I will see someone taking a photo with their finger over the flash and I will tell them what I saw so they can take the photo again. I know other photographers that will just shake their head and walk away. How can the person learn to do better if they don't know they are doing something wrong?
We all have our own rules, Here are my 10 Commandments of Photography:
- Thou shalt always read your camera's manual. Knowledge is the best super power to have! It also will tell you some tricks you didn't even know your camera could do.
- Thou shalt always carry a camera. How can you get a great picture if you don't carry a camera. Whether it is a DSLR, Point and Shoot, or your cell phone, always, always have a camera with you.
- Thou shalt never have people say "Cheese." This causes forced smiles that can never be forgotten. We all have those pictures that we wish no one would ever see.
- Thou shalt use the different settings on your camera and not stay in auto mode. Your camera can change the shutter speed to get great sports shots or even get you so close to something that you can see every detail.
- Thou shalt learn the rules of composition and then learn to break those rules. Sometimes being outside the box is the best photo.
- Thou shalt know your equipment and never stop learning. Knowledge is power.
- Thou shalt share your passion with others. Share your talent. When people ask a question, answer it and even show them how to do it. Seeing someone grow in their photography is an amazing thing.
- Thou shalt teach others how to not use a flash when taking pictures at an aquarium. You have seen those pictures where there is a white light where the shark should be. Just tell them to shut off their flash. They will thank you later :0)
- Thou shalt always be patient and wait for your shot. Sometimes it takes hours to get the right shot. Photography takes patience. Slow and steady gets the shot.
- Thou shalt never covet they neighbor's camera. (I'm still working on this one.)
