Problem Solving...

Even though, relatively speaking, I'm not that old, I still have a sense of my brain power slipping away with age. So I was listening to a podcast last week and the guests were talking about Lumosity According to the web site, playing lumosity games helps you:

  • Reach Peak Performance
  • Fight Cognitive Decline
  • Improve Brain Health
  • Sharpen Memory
  • Focus Attention
  • Enhance Creativity

I started playing the games and going through their training via the iPhone application last week. I've completed enough games to receive my Brain Performance Index, or BPI. While I won't share my overall BPI here, I do want to talk about a particular score, problem solving.

In a comparison of people who play lumosity within 5 years of my age, my BPI is higher than 92% of them. I consider that to be very good. Just for the record and bragging rights, none of my scores fall below, or even close to 50%.

The reason I wanted to point out problem solving specifically relates to a pet peeve of mine. Though I've spent most of my working years engaging in entrepreneurial pursuits, I have occasionally been an employee. Throwing out the short-term, summer work type of jobs, I've had two significant experiences as an employee. In both cases, I've found myself working for someone who has very poor problem solving skills. In one case, this person was an elected official.
