Christmas Lights.....

At potluck this week I got to spend a little time with Carol talking about taking picture of her Christmas tree. Most people when they try and take pictures of there tree they leave the flash on and the get pictures of there tree but not the lights that are on the tree.  Looks alot like this.

Or they try to get a natural light and they get something that looks like this.....

But what they are really trying to get is this....

or this

So what is the difference?  The first picture was taken with the flash. The flash takes out the glow of the lights as you can see, the second was taken with out the flash and being hand help. As you can tell the blur is not what we were looking for.

So to fix this problem what should you do...1st set the camera on a tripod...if no tripod then put it on a table.  This will keep the camera steady and prevent blur.  You will need to set the cameras flash to off.  I like to use a self timer that prevents even more blur.  That is how I took the last two pictures.  Every camera has a different setting as to what will be better for low light.  Read your manual.  Experiment.

Remember to take alot of pictures, that is why digital photography is where it is at.

Have fun and keep taking pictures!
