Steel Cut Oatmeal Buffet
Life is busy! Sometimes I forget to take a step back and revert to a place in time when life moved at a slower pace. I'm talking about breakfast. I usually grab and go during the work week with my standard organic banana, greek yogurt, and Nature's Path Organic Apple Pie Crunch granola bar.
This morning I decided to take a slower path to breakfast and prepared a steel-cut oatmeal buffet.
I started off with organic steel-cut oats. Cooking time for steel-cut oats can very depending on if you soaked the oats over night or not. I usually do not soak the oats. I cooked two servings of oats as follows:
- 2 Cups Water
- 1/2 Cup Steel-Cut Oats
- Pinch of Salt

Bring water to a boil. Add oatmeal and salt. Stir and return to boil. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook the oats 20 - 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. The longer you cook the oats, the softer they will become. Very the cooking time to your liking.
Toppings -- These are the toppings I prepared. Please share your favorite toppings in the comment section below.
- Diced Apple
- Chopped Walnuts
- Golden Raisins
- Butter
- Cinnamon
- Honey, Brown Sugar, or Maple Syrup
- Milk

There are many good reasons to eat steel-cut oats. Eating just one serving of oats will fuel your body with fiber, iron, and protein. I remember my Grandmother eating oatmeal everyday for breakfast. She lived to be 93. I think this is one of the many reasons she lived so long. It certainly couldn't hurt. What do you think?
